Manc blokes spend most time talking to mothers

Research of male mobile phone usage trends has identified that blokes in Manchester spend more time on the phone to their mums than any other region in the UK.

The research, carried out by rightmobilephone.co.uk, also suggests that northern men are keener to keep in regular touch with their mums than their southern counterparts as seven out of the top 10 cities that speak most to their mothers are from the north.

Those who took part in the study were asked to calculate the average time spent on the phone to their mum as a proportion of the entire time spent using their phone over a one month period.

The top 10 mum loving cities

1. Manchester, 58% of time spent on phone is calls to mum

2. Leeds, 54%

3. Newcastle Upon Tyne, 52%

4. Portsmouth, 51%

5. Birmingham, 46%

6. Liverpool, 46%

7. Swindon, 42%

8. Grimsby, 41%

9. Aberdeen, 39%

10. Bradford, 38%

5 cities that show the least mum love

1. Glasgow, 4%

2. Luton, 5%

3. Coventry, 5%

4. Oxford, 6%

5. Cardiff, 7%

Speaking on the results, MD of rightmobilephone.co.uk, Neil McHugh said: "As someone based in the south I was amazed at the results but maybe it could be because us southerners spend more time face to face with our mums than on the phone to them."

He continued: "What has been really interesting is the fact that for many of the guys we spoke to we could see that they spent more time on the phone to their mums than they do to their partners or wife and as for poor old dads, they hardly seem to get a look in."
